Maersk to provide faster connection between Vietnam and US
Shipping company Maersk Line will launch a weekly feeder service between Vietnam and Hong Kong this month connecting with a trans-Pacific loop the carrier says will provide the fastest transit time from Vietnam to the West Coast of the United States, according to VNBusinessNews.com, which citied a report in the Journal of Commerce.
The Pacific Express Service, which will start regular weekly sailings on Tuesdays from the port of Cat Lai near Ho Chi Minh City on September 16, will connect with Maersk’s TP-6 trans-Pacific service in Hong Kong for a direct connection with the Port of Los Angeles.
The announcement of Maersk’s new feeder service follows the introduction earlier this summer of direct deep-sea services from the port of Cai Mep to the US West Coast by several other carriers, including APL and MOL.
“Vietnam is a fast-developing market with significant growth as a sourcing location,” said Peter Smidt-Nielsen, general director of Maersk Line Vietnam. “We have analysed the deployment and terminal opportunities in Vietnam and have listened closely to our customers to provide a product that delivers best-in-class service and lead-time.”
The combination of the Pacific Express Service with TP-6 will provide shippers with a transit time of 17 days from the time of origin cutoff in Ho Chi Minh City to discharge in Los Angeles.
