British company Mott MacDonald Group will provide technical consultancy services for the Kien Luong 1 Thermoelectric Power Project, the largest of its kind in Vietnam funded by a local non-state company, according to an online report in

The contract Mott Macdonald signed with Tan Tao Energy Joint Stock Company - the project’s investor, will see the UK group helping its partner select the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor, oversee construction of the project and test the plant once it completes.

The plant includes two 600 MW turbine groups and is estimated to cost nearly 45.8 trillion dong ($2.6 billion) in total. Once operates at full capacity in 2014, it will generate 8,100-8,640 billion kWh to the national grid each year.

The project will cover 578.8 ha in Kien Luong district in the Mekong delta province of Kien Giang.
