Japanese convenience store chain FamilyMart Co will concentrate its Asian operations outside Japan in China and Vietnam, quoted the firm’s president as saying Tuesday in Ho Chi Minh City where it opened its first Vietnamese store last month.

''We would like to focus business resources on China and Vietnam for our growth,'' Junji Ueda told a press conference.

Daily sales at the first FamilyMart store in Vietnam are 2.5 times greater than planned, he said, indicating the firm could front-load its expansion plan in Vietnam.

After establishing a network of 371 stores in China by now, FamilyMart plans to open five more stores in Ho Chi Minh City within this year and expand its Vietnamese network to cover 300 stores in five years.
