Vietnam opens new airport
The terminal in Can Tho city, which covers 20,700 sq meters, was formerly a domestic airport and now includes a two-storey building and a 3,000 meter runway to accommodate Boeing 777 and 747 planes.
The upgrading of the airport started five years ago and cost the government VND 520 billion (US$34.2 million).
Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, speaking at its opening on January 1, said the airport opened a new opportunity for the southwestern region and would facilitate sustainable development in the Mekong Delta region.
