South Korea's Hyundai Engineering and LG International Corp have won a joint contract worth $250 million to build a polyester plant in northern Vietnam, Reuters quoted the Vietnamese government as saying Friday.

Under the engineering-procurement-construction contract, the two firms must complete the plant, located in Dinh Vu in the port city of Hai Phong, by 2011, the government said in a statement.

The 500-tonne-per-day factory is to be jointly owned by state oil monopoly Petrovietnam and top garment group Vinatex.
