Asean Summit:
Thailand proposes late February for annual meet

Thailand is ready to host the 14th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) summit in late February, Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya was quoted by regional media as saying Saturday.

Foreign Ministry proposed that the summit be held on February 27, 28 and March 1, he added.

The summit is expected to be held in Bangkok, as confirmed by Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva.

Meanwhile, Asean Secretary General Surin Pitsuwan told reporters after a bilateral meeting with Thai Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya on Saturday that Thailand should be given a chance to host the 14th Asean Summit as the country has currently returned to normalcy.

Major issues to be discussed during the Asean summit, according to Kasit,  include transnational labour concerns, human trafficking and the Asean peacekeeping force.
