Protesters repeat call for PM to resign

Anti-government protesters in Thailand on Sunday repeated their demand for the resignation of Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej and called for government coalition party members to withdraw their support, reported Thai News Agency.

The People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD) on Sunday met to discuss the group's stance towards the government's efforts to disperse its gathering, and said they would issue an announcement reiterating its stance after Prime Minister Samak threatened to use police forces to disperse protesters but backed down later.

The PAD also called on coalition party members to show their responsibility towards the public and the nation by giving up their support for Samak and withdrawing from the current government immediately.

On Saturday, Samak threatened to use riot police to forcibly remove the protesters, but took a more conciliatory tone on Sunday.
