Rice, energy on agenda during Thai PM’s visit

Thailand’s Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej is visiting the Philippines on Thursday, his first to the archipelago since he took office in February, Thai News Agency reported.

Samak is expected to discuss with Philippines’ leadership on Thailand’s rice exports and energy cooperation, as well as efforts to further strengthen bilateral relationship, according to Thai government Spokesman Pol.Lt-Gen.Wichienchote Sukchoterat.

The leaders are also expected to discuss the celebration of the 60th anniversary of Thai-Philippine relations in 2009 as well as military cooperation and investment.

Trade and investment between the two countries is valued at over US$5 billion and Thailand has trade surplus of $757 million.

Amendment of the double taxation agreement will be on the agenda and the establishment of the joint committee on energy cooperation will be considered.
