Thai bourse continues "Investment Nationwide" campaign in the South on June 15

BANGKOK, June 10, 2013 - The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) continues its "Investment Nationwide” campaign to expand the quality retail investor base throughout the country. Under the bourse’s strategic plan for 2013, SET will join hands with financial specialists to host the "SET-TFEX connects regions for investment" event in Surat Thani to present financial knowledge and investment tips, covering equities, derivatives, and mutual funds to investors in the South, at the Diamond Plaza Hotel on Saturday, June 15, from 9:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.  SET expects to boost the proportion of provincial investor accounts to 20 percent of all retail investor accounts over the next three years.

Kesara Manchusree, SET Executive Vice President and Head of Markets Division, said: “The bourse is forming investment networks across the country. The destination for the "SET-TFEX connects regions for investment" event this time will be Surat Thani, a province in southern Thailand, which has outstanding economic potential, as it serves as a distribution hub both within the country and aboard and is a hub for seafood processing. The major income of the province derives from agriculture, especially rubber and palm trees cultivation, which are important exports of Thailand. Also, tourism is very significant, as there are a variety of beautiful natural resources, including well-known seasides. This province has 26 listed companies, with 8 securities firms to serve local investors.”

“From the economic information, Thai bourse has recognized the potential of regional investors in Surat Thani and nearby provinces. That’s why we choose Surat Thani as a center for our event in southern region under the concept “First-Time Investment in Securities – Further Profits with Futures – Manage Savings through Mutual Funds” to help local investors, especially first-timers, to become quality prudent investors.  The event will also help support Thai bourse to achieve its goal to expand investor base in the upcountry and boost the proportion of provincial investor accounts to 20 percent of all retail investor accounts within 2016,” Kesara concluded.

The public is cordially invited to the "SET-TFEX connects regions for investment" event in Surat Thani at the Diamond Plaza Hotel on Saturday, June 15, from 9:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. For more information, please visit www.set.or.th/setinvestorcity or contact S-E-T Call Center at 0-2229-2222, and mobile app "SETactivity".

AseanAffairs   04 January 2011
By David Swartzentruber

It is commonplace in journalism to write two types of articles at the transition point between the year that has passed and the New Year. As this writer qualifies as an “old hand” in observing Thailand with a track record dating back 14 years, it is time take a shot at what may unfold in Thailand in 2011.

The first issue that can’t be answered is the health of Thailand’s beloved King Bhumibol, who is now 83 years old. He is the world's longest reigning monarch, but elaborate birthday celebrations in December failed to mask concern over his health. More
