FDI applications rise in Thailand
However, the combined value of the investment projects dropped 2.69 percent, from 294 billion baht reported last year to 286.10 billion baht.
Of the total 1,107 applications, 308 were for investment in services and utilities industries, with a total investment cost of 125.30 billion baht; 191 were for agricultural industries, with 44 billion baht combined investment value; and 215 were in the metal, machinery and transportation equipment industries, with 34.70 billion baht investment cost.
A total of 683 applications were for medium industrial projects, having investment costs between 20 million baht and 500 million baht. The number of applications was up 46 per cent from 468 applications reported in the first nine months of last year.
Japanese were the largest investors with 256 investment projects worth 55.13 billion baht, followed by Singaporeans with 48 applications with a combined 8.87 billion baht in investment cost, and Chinese with 22 applications with a total investment value of 8.62 billion baht.
