Abhisit: Thailand ready to host Asean Summit
Thailand is ready to host the Asean Summit, Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva said Thursday.
Thailand, the 2009 chairmanship of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean), will also host the 15th Asean Summit and related meetings during Oct. 23-25 in southern beach resort town Cha-am and Hua Hin.
Abhisit's remark was made as he was inspecting preparations at the planned venues for the Asean Summit and its related meetings, Thai News Agency reported.
No participant country has expressed worries about the security issue, the Thai Prime Minister said. Abhisit hopes that once the Asean Summit is successfully hosted, it will boost the international confidence in Thailand.
The Internal Security Act (ISA) has been imposed from October 12 until 27 to ensure security at the venues of the Summit and related meetings.
