Flood disaster in one-third of Thailand

The water situation in Bangkok is controllable at this time (11:20 a.m.-Bangkok time) as the government is trying to drive water to the sea, director of the Flood Relief Operation Command Pracha Promnok said in a press conference on Friday.

Pol Gen Pracha Promnok said Froc had yesterday set up a forward command, headed by permanent secretary for interior Pranai Suwanrath, to oversee flood operations in east Bangkok.

It is commonplace in journalism to write two types of articles at the transition point between the year that has passed and the New Year. As this writer qualifies as an “old hand” in observing Thailand with a track record dating back 14 years, it is time take a shot at what may unfold in Thailand in 2011.
