More than 5 billion baht stands to be invested in the start-up of a 38-megawatt solar-cell powered electricity plant in Bang Pa district, north of Thailand, according to Bang Chak Petroleum Plc.

Plans are afoot to increase the plant to 120 megawatts in the future.

The kick-off foundation stone laying ceremony was held today with power from the plant expected to go on Thailand’s electrical grid in October 2011.

The project is expected to reduce the amount of coal by 40,000 tons of coal annually.
