Gold prices dive 2,350 baht

The Gold Traders Association this morning announced the buying prices at 18,631.64 baht per baht-weight for gold ornaments and 18,900 baht per baht-weight for gold bar.

The selling prices were set at 19,400 baht per baht-weight for gold ornaments, and 19,000 baht per baht-weight for gold bar.

This means the gold prices were down 2,350 baht from Friday’s close.

The buying prices on Friday closed at 20,935.96 baht per baht-weight for gold ornaments and 21,250 baht per baht-weight for gold bar.

The selling prices closed at 21,750 baht per baht-weight for gold ornaments, and 21,350 baht per baht-weight for gold bar.

It is commonplace in journalism to write two types of articles at the transition point between the year that has passed and the New Year. As this writer qualifies as an “old hand” in observing Thailand with a track record dating back 14 years, it is time take a shot at what may unfold in Thailand in 2011.

The first issue that can’t be answered is the health of Thailand’s beloved King Bhumibol, who is now 83 years old. He is the world's longest reigning monarch, but elaborate birthday celebrations in December failed to mask concern over his health. More
