Malaysian King presents Proton Savvy to Thai King

Malaysian King, Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin, has presented a Proton Savvy car as a birthday gift to King Bhumibol Adulyadej in conjunction with his 80th birthday.

Malaysian Ambassador to Thailand Shaarani Ibrahim handed the car to the world's longest-reigning monarch at the Chitralada Palace here Thursday.

Present were Proton Holdings Berhad chairman Mohammed Azlan Hashim and Managing Director Syed Zainal Abidin Syed Mohamed Tahir.  The revered King Bhumibol celebrated his 80th birthday on Dec 5 last year.

Mohammed Azlan said the King was thankful to Tuanku Mizan for remembering and presenting him with the Savyy AMT (automatic manual transmission).

"He appreciated the car...His Majesty said he liked the specially-painted angel blue car," he said. After receiving the keys, the King viewed the car and was given an insight of Savvy and other models produced by Proton.

Proton made its debut in Thailand at the end of last year with three models -- the fuel-efficient Savvy, Gen2 and Satria Neo.

Proton had already sold 1,200 cars since its launch in November, with Savvy, the cheapest car in the Thai market, accounting for half of the market.
