Govt considers importing Russian oil and gas

Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej is seeking to buy less expensive crude oil and natural gas from Russia in the face of sustained oil price rises in the world markets, reported Thai News Agency.

The prime minister made his comment after discussing the world oil issue with Russian ambassador to Thailand Yevgeny V Afanasiev at Government House Tuesday.

Samak said he plans to leave for Moscow in foreseeable future to negotiate a purchase of some Russian crude oil and natural gas at a bargainable price which is expected to remain below $100 per barrel.

He said Thailand has the potential to become a regional market for Russian oil and natural gas to be distributed to neighbouring countries.
