THAILAND /EMERALD TRIANGLE
Thai government plans to resume the Emerald Triangle Cooperation which aims to promote tourism among three neighbouring countries, Thailand, Laos and Cambodia, after a five-year delay, Thai News Agency reported.
Speaking after a workshop on development projects for the Emerald Triangle Cooperation Saturday, Thai Tourism and Sports Minister Weerasak Kohsurat said that the project could be implemented but studies on the governments' policies and politics must be first carried out. Frequent political changes in Thailand, he said, delayed the implementation of the project, but there were no problems regarding relations between the three neighbouring countries.
The Emerald Triangle Cooperation scheme is expected to help generate economic growth, reduce income disparity in the three countries and enhance well-being of people at the grassroots level.
