The San Francisco retailer has signed a franchise agreement with Armin Systems Ltd to open Gap stores in Thailand. The first will open in spring 2010, reported New Mexico Business Weekly on its website.

"Armin Systems Limited is an experienced retailer in Thailand with a deep understanding of the marketplace and we're excited to join with them to offer the Gap brand to our customers in Thailand," said Ron Young, Gap's senior vice president of international strategic alliances, in a statement.

In January 2006, Gap Inc signed its first franchising agreement to expand its international presence. Through these franchise partners, the company today has 100 Gap and 34 Banana Republic stores open in 17 countries.

In Southeast Asia, Gap has franchised stores open in Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines and Singapore.
