Thai PTT eyes Indonesia’s Natuna gas field
Thailand’s top energy firm PTT holds talk with Indonesian state oil firm Pertamina about investing in the offshore Natuna D-Alpha gas block, reported Reuters Thursday.

Chitrapongse Kwangsukstith, chief operating officer of PTT’s upstream petroleum and gas operation, said the company and its PTT Exploration & Production unit were interested in investing in a project. “We are interested to invest in the field and we’re certain we can get it,” he said.

The project was expected to come on stream in 2018, he added.

The Natuna D-Alpha gas block is believed to have reserves of 46 trillion cubic feet of commercially recoverable natural gas.

The Indonesian government has appointed Pertamina as the operator of Natuna, but the state firm does not have the capacity to develop the field alone, which is estimated to need $40 billion in investment.
