The 2011 series of Save Our Planet conferences organized by the Asean Affairs Business Council (AABC), a division of Asean Affairs- the global publication of Southeast Asia, opened at the Shangri-La Hotel, Bangkok, 18 March 2011, as the ongoing Japanese nuclear crisis brought added impact and urgency to the event.

Save Our Planet is a global series of conferences focusing on meeting the challenges of global warming and reducing man’s carbon footprint. The first two conferences were held in Bangkok, the third in Kuala Lumpur and the series opened in Bangkok this year.

The 4th Save Our Planet Conference attracted researchers, environmental experts, business leaders and school children from a dozen countries who addressed a number of subjects under the theme, “The 3 e’s Energy, Economy, Evolution.”

At the start of the conference, a 1-minute period of silence was observed for the Japanese people. Donations were collected from participants during the conference to be given to Japan by the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Keynote addresses were given by Dr. Supachai Tantikom, member of the advisory committee to the Governor of Bangkok and Mrs. Kasemsri Homchean, Governor, Thailand Institute of Scientific and Technological Research.

The founder and chairman of Asean Affairs, Swarup Roy opened the conference and in his welcoming address said, “I hope there is hope for Southeast Asia” and pledged to develop a “mass movement of people” to actualize the 3e’s.
