Five-year plan to boost public transport
Plans are on track to build more rail lines beyond the year 2020 and in the immediate future bus services will be made more reliable and attractive to commuters. Transport Minister Lui Tuck Yew in an addendum to the President's Address on Friday outlined the Ministry's five-year plan to increase capacity and service standards on both rail and bus networks. By doing so, the Ministry hopes more commuters will view public transport as an “attractive and viable alternative” to the car and - by 2020 - have 70 percent of all morning journeys made on buses and trains. Major bus stops will be upgraded, more bus priority measures will be implemented and more integrated bus hubs will be built, said Mr Lui.
