Acting Manpower Minister (MOM) Tan Chuan-Jin
SINGAPORE: Acting Manpower Minister (MOM) Tan Chuan-Jin said the priority for tripartite partners is to create better jobs for all.
In his May Day message, Mr Tan said to do this better, workplaces must be built and workers at all levels must be helped to upgrade their skills.
This, in turn will help to develop a better and skilled workforce.
Mr Tan said Singapore's economy is experiencing a period of slower growth.
This year, GDP growth is expected to remain within the range of one to three per cent.
Mr Tan also said his ministry is studying the employment systems in other countries to ensure fair workplaces that value every worker.
MOM will consult the tripartite partners, to ensure that workers are given fair consideration at the workplace.
Mr Tan added that the government will continue to work with companies and workers in the drive for productivity.
Workers on their part must also take ownership of their upgrading by reskilling and upskilling.
