Older workers gain in Singapore
In a move to let more older Singaporeans work longer, the Singapore government is reducing the list of workers who do not get to stay on the job till the retirement age of 62 and be offered re-employment.
The list of 26 categories will be reduced to 13, and among those removed are polytechnic and university lecturers, doctors and dentists working in hospitals on fixed-term contracts as well as pilots.
But the cabin crew of commercial airlines and public officers in the uniformed services, such as the police, civil defense and the armed forces, continue to be exempted from the Retirement and Re-employment Act.
