Sembmarine unit secures S$1.4b contract to build facility in North Sea

SINGAPORE: A unit of Sembcorp Marine (Sembmarine) has secured a contract worth more than US$1 billion (S$1.4 billion) from Maersk Oil North Sea UK to build a facility for the Culzean Field Development in the North Sea.

In a press release on Tuesday (Sep 1), the oil rig builder said the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contract has been secured by its subsidiary SMOE.

The company will build three topsides that include the central processing facility, two connecting bridges, wellhead platform and living quarters. The facility will be installed at depth of about 90 metres underwater in United Kingdom sector of the central North Sea.

Sembmarine’s Executive Vice President and Head of Offshore Platforms Ho Nee Sin said: “We are pleased to secure this mega contract despite stiff competition from world class yards. This is another prestigious North Sea project undertaken by the company where we will work closely with our UK subsidiary Sembmarine SLP as a team.”

The Culzean gas field is expected to provide around 5 per cent of the UK's total gas consumption by 2020/21.

Sembmarine said the contract is not expected to have any material impact on its net tangible assets and earnings per share for the year ending Dec 31.
