Staying true to its French heritage, Sofitel Luxury Hotels will mark the Summer Solstice with its annual "F?te de la Musique" celebration in hotels across the world. Serving as musical and cultural ambassadors, Sofitel transforms the French festival into a global event with all its properties worldwide hosting unique celebrations that unite French elegance with local elements.

Launched in France during the Summer Solstice of 1982, summer cheer transforms the streets of Paris into the world’s biggest performance stage as hundreds of musicians gather to celebrate the joy of music in all its varied styles. As a leading French hotelier, Sofitel plays an active role to promote and celebrate this major cultural event around the world.
From Paris and Washington to Colombia, Melbourne and Bangkok, over 120 Sofitel hotels from five continents will join together to rejoice with good music and ? joie de vivre ? on the longest day of summer.

Across Asia, Sofitel hotels will be holding unique musical events to mark this special occasion. From music recitals in restaurants to performances and exhibitions in lobbies and poolside parties, each hotel will commemorate F?te de la Musique in its own individual way, mixing French tradition with the very best of local culture.

Sofitel So Bangkok – On 22 June 2013, nothing beats the heat like a pool party! Celebrate summer’s longest day at the most happening pool party of the season. Soak up the Summer Solstice at the hotel’s Water Club and enjoy the best music in town featuring a line-up of seven of the hottest DJs from famous clubs in Bangkok; Bed Supperclub, Levels, Q Bar, Funky Villa, Demo, and Safe House. Enjoy stunning views of the bustling city while indulging in delectable barbeque bites and delicious cocktails accompanied by dynamic beats and mixes by what is probably the best ever DJ line-up in town. Sofitel Angkor Phokeethra Golf & Spa Resort – Explore the history behind some of Cambodia’s ancient musical instruments through an exhibition at the hotel’s lobby tracing Khmer cultural history through images of the bas-reliefs from the temples of Angkor Wat. These forgotten musical instruments are given a new lease of life by Patrick Kersal?, a ethnomusicologist, who has reconstructed the musical instruments used during the ancient days of the Khmer Empire. Take a walk into the past as musicians revive the music of Cambodian ancestors and enjoy a drink after the performances while discovering more about this rich history through an enriching session with Patrick Kersal?.

Sofitel Phnom Penh Phokeethra – Showcasing the links between traditional French elements and their Khmer counterparts, Sofitel Phnom Penh Phokeethra presents “Bohemia”, a marketplace fair showcasing the best of French Bohemian and the old gipsy culture of Paris together with the traditional costumes and arts of Cambodia. Inspired by the story of ‘The Hunchback of Notre Dame, experience a celebration of two cultures highlighted through displays of traditional costumes, music performances, fortune teller stall and much more.


Sofitel Saigon Plaza – A throwback to vintage glamour and style, Sofitel Saigon Plaza will be hosting a 1960s themed pool party in conjunction with this year’s F?te de la Musique and the hotel’s BB Forever exhibition, which celebrates the life of the iconic Brigitte Bardot. This chic “rendezvous” party will also feature a live performances by well-known local-based French DJ, DJ Peanuts, who will complement the old world charm with the latest musical sensations with “BB and friends’ songs”. The hotel will be paying tribute to its French heritage with an exquisite menu offering of fine French cuisine from Southern France and St Tropez paired with a selection of cocktails including the ‘BB cocktail’ named for Brigitte Bardot.

Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi – A skillful fusion of the best of French and Vietnamese cultures, Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi will hold an evening of local music and flavours combined with contemporary French influences under the stars at the hotel’s poolside champagne bar. With musical performances from both local celebrities and international performers including famous local singer L? C?t Tr?ng L? and American Jazz sensation Diva Diane Witherspoon, guests can expect an evening to remember filled with live musical performance across all genres.

Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila – Marrying the past and present, Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila will hold a special “DJ Meets Diva” themed evening at the hotel’s luxurious lobby lounge “Le Bar”. This year in Thailand-what next?

It is commonplace in journalism to write two types of articles at the transition point between the year that has passed and the New Year. As this writer qualifies as an “old hand” in observing Thailand with a track record dating back 14 years, it is time take a shot at what may unfold in Thailand in 2011.

The first issue that can’t be answered is the health of Thailand’s beloved King Bhumibol, who is now 83 years old. He is the world's longest reigning monarch, but elaborate birthday celebrations in December failed to mask concern over his health. More
