ASEAN Welcomes Moroccan Ambassador
ASEAN Secretariat, 9 February 2010

The Ambassador of Morocco to ASEAN, H.E.Mohamed Majdi, today presented his letter of credentials to the Secretary-General of ASEAN, Dr Surin Pitsuwan, at the ASEAN Secretariat.

Dr. Surin said that Ambassador Majdi’s accreditation to ASEAN represents the region’s growing ties with external friends and partners as it advances towards an ASEAN Community. Looking forward to greater collaboration between ASEAN and Morocco, Dr Surin said that “tourism, education, cultural exchange activities and economic cooperation could be viable and serve to advance the relationship in the years to come”.

The Moroccan Ambassador said that his country is keen on building a strong relationship with ASEAN. “The Kingdom of Morocco already enjoys well-established bilateral relations with most of the member countries of ASEAN, whose people have always shared deep-rooted culture and religious ties with the Moroccan nation. By establishing diplomatic relations with ASEAN, Morocco is therefore further consolidating its cultural and economic cooperation ties with the region,” he added.

Ambassador Majdi is concurrently Ambassador to Indonesia.
