Philippine poll fraud enquiry continues
A special government panel looking into purported election anomalies on Tuesday formally summoned former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and more than 30 other personalities linked by witnesses in alleged irregularities in the 2007 mid-term elections.
In a subpoena, members of the joint Department of Justice and Commission on Elections panel directed Arroyo, her husband Jose Miguel “Mike” Arroyo, former Maguindanao Governor Andal Ampatuan Sr., former Commission on Elections chairman Benjamin Abalos and several others to appear at a November hearing at the DoJ.
Also included in the subpoena were former Justice Secretary Alberto Agra, former elections commissioner Nicodemo Ferrer and former Maguindanao election supervisor Lintang Bedol.
A team of DoJ personnel, aboard at least two vehicles, left the DoJ compound around 10 a.m. to separately serve the subpoena to the respondents.
