Money transfer firm to open 40,000 new outlets
Money transfer services provider Western Union Co. is adding another 40,000 locations to its global distribution network, boosting its current site count to 450,000 from the current 410,000, reported the Philippine Daily Inquirer. In a statement issued Wednesday, Western Union senior vice president for Pacific and Indochina Patricia Riingen said the expansion was in line with the company’s thrust to bring its services nearer to as many consumers as possible. She said the firm wanted to expand its presence not only in the Philippines, “but in countries where our consumers’ fathers and mothers, sons and daughters are working hard for a better life.” The company’s current network of 410,000 locations, she said, already reached Filipinos in more than 200 countries and territories globally, even in the countryside and in underserved areas. In the Philippines alone, Western Union has 7,700 agent locations, she said. Despite this, she said there was still a need to further expand Western Union’s reach.
