Ford Philippines exports top 2009
In a statement, Ford Philippines said its exports as of last month have reached 9,092 Ford and Mazda vehicles, about a fourth higher than last year's total of 7,277 units. The company had said it expects to export as much as 10,000 vehicles for 2010 and that vehicles bound for overseas markets have comprised about half of production this year.
The cumulative value of Ford Philippines' exports since 2002 is now at about $950 million. Ford Philippines is the lone participant in the Automotive Export Program (AEP).
It exports the models Escape and Focus to Ford subsidiaries in Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand, as well as Mazda3 to Thailand.
The government would be reissuing the AEP, through which vehicle export activities would enjoy a lower production volume requirement.
Ford Philippines recently churned out the 75,000th vehicle-a Ford Focus-it assembled for export.
"Everyone at Ford Philippines is proud to continue building on the success of our export program here in the Philippines and passing the 75,000th-unit milestone is a significant achievement for all of us," Randy Krieger, the company's president, said.
"The continued export demand for the Ford and Mazda vehicles from our Santa Rosa City facility is driven by the world-class quality and safety that our Filipino workforce delivers, and an ongoing commitment to excellence," he added.
