PHL share prices sets fourth record high this year

Recovering from an early slump, Philippine share prices ended at a new record high – the fourth for this year – as foreign funds continue to place bets in the local market due to bright prospects for the local economy.
The main PSEi jumped by 37.74 points or 0.50 percent to 7,586.67 at closing. This eclipsed the 7,548.93 record close last Friday.
The broader All Shares added 18.49 points or 0.42 percent to 4,421.91.
Investors were taking profits earlier in the session but tables have turned since a lot of money is coming in the local market amid the turbulence in Europe, Wealth Securities Inc. analyst Miguel Agarao told GMA News Online.
"This comes on the heels of the continued slide of oil prices. This also follows the upward revision of growth forecasts by World Bank and International Monetary Fund on continued drop in oil prices," he said.
"More is also expected in spending since this year is a pre-election year," Agarao added.
On Sunday, Greece voted in a crucial general election that could bring the radical Syriza party to power and present the strongest challenge yet to austerity policies for struggling European Union nations, weighing down the Euro while analysts expect European shares to take a beating, Reuters reported.

This year in Thailand-what next?

AseanAffairs   04 January 2011
By David Swartzentruber
