VIETNAM/AVIATION
Dong Hoi airport opened in Quang Binh Province

Dong Hoi airport in central Quang Binh province was inaugurated on May 18 after nearly four years of construction.

Originally a military airport, Dong Hoi was upgraded into a domestic airport to link the central regional with important political and economic centres throughout the country under the governments master plan on development of a national system of civil airports.

The airport, about 6 km from Dong Hoi town, can receive A321 airplanes and has a design capacity of 300 passengers per hour or 500,000 passengers a year.

Dong Hoi Airport is expected to help boost local socio-economic development, especially tourism as Quang Binh is home to the world cultural heritage site of Phong Nha-Ke Bang.

Vietnam Airlines will launch the Hanoi-Dong Hoi route with three flights a week as from early July.
