US carrier to begin Ho Chi Minh-Los Angeles route via Hong Kong
United Airlines announced it would begin a daily passenger and cargo service between Vietnam's southern Ho Chi Minh City and Los Angeles via China's Hong Kong on Oct. 29.

"We are delighted that in less than three years of operating in Vietnam, we are significantly expanding our route network and offering travelers from Vietnam a second gateway to California," local newspaper Vietnam News on Tuesday quoted Mark Schwab, vice president of United's Asia-Pacific region, as saying.

The new service, using Boeing B747-400 aircraft, will also significantly increase cargo capacity into Los Angeles, the largest cargo gateway on the U.S. west coast.

Joe Manix, United's country manager in Vietnam, said, "Los Angeles is home to the largest ethnic Vietnamese population in the United States, and the new service is expected to appeal to the fast-growing Vietnamese market while also complementing other United services from Ho Chi Minh City via Hong Kong to San Francisco and Chicago."
