Vietnam: US Provides $1.4mn aviation safety

Vietnam and the United States have signed an agreement on the latter's aid, enabling the continued aviation safety project with its second and third phases, reported state news agency VNA.

The project, with the US funding of $1.4 million for the three phases starting from 2006, aims to help Vietnamese aviation staff to improve their capacity to supervise air traffic safety on the roadmap to open a direct air route to the US.

In early 2008, the national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines submitted its application to the US aviation management agency for a licence to operate direct flights scheduled to kick off in 2009 as the soonest.
