Thailand Focus to help boost sentiment in SET
The Third Thailand Focus event set to kick off on Wednesday will help boost the understanding of foreign investors and investment sentiment in the Stock Exchange of Thailand, according to a SET executive.

SET senior vice-president Vichet Tantivanich said that by holding the forum Thailand will improve the overall picture of investment and boost confidence among foreign funds after the country had suffered political woes and the event was not held last year.

The forum would serve as a venue where the investors would be kept informed of Thailand's political direction and policies of the new government in the future.

"Around 250 fund managers worldwide will participate in this event where executives of 63 listed companies whose market capitalisation represents 60 per cent are invited to meet them.

"Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont will deliver a keynote speech on policies of the current government and procedures to hand over power to the post-election government. Also, leaders of key contenders for the general election will present their vision," he said.

Currently, he said, foreign investment in the Thai bourse totals Bt1.5 trillion or one-third of the market capitalization of Bt6 trillion.

This year, foreign investors had a net buy of more than Bt90 billion. Even in a certain period when the market was in a bearish mood, foreign investors on average traded around Bt4-5 billion. TNA reports
