Sharp Indonesia relocating audio production to Malaysia
PT Sharp Electronics Indonesia will move its audio electronics production base to Malaysia starting next month, but vows to shift all workers into a new manufacturing facility, reported Indonesian daily the Jakarta Post.
"We will not fire our workers. They will be transferred to another department," president director Fumihiro Irie said during celebrations of Sharp's 10 millionth television unit, in Jakarta on Thursday.
Fumihiro said the company would focus more on manufacturing washing machines with a new factory currently being prepared for it, which was expected to be concluded in November.
Sharp's Indonesia base currently has the capacity to produce100,000 audio system units, 80 percent of which is allocated for exports.
Fumihiro said the shift to Malaysia was prompted by a weak sales here. "We can no longer expect anything from Indonesia's audio market," he was quoted as saying by Tempointeraktif.com.
