Seminar on Promoting Malaysian Halal
A seminar on business opportunities for Thai businesses in Halal industry was organized by Mihas, the world’s largest trade fair and Malaysia’s largest food and beverage exhibition on 14th December 2007 at Four Seasons Hotel, Bangkok. The main objective was to promote the upcoming Malaysia International Halal Showcase scheduled May 7-11 2008 at MATRADE Exhibition and Convention Centre in Kuala Lumpur.
The Exhibition will be organized by MATRADE in collaboration with Islamic Dakwah Foundation Malaysia (YADIM) and will be hosted by Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI).
Themed “Bridging the Global Halal Market”, MIHAS presents a lucrative prospect for Thai businesses to tap into the growing Halal market. MIHAS is the world’s flagship Halal trade fair with over 500 exhibition booths expected fro 25 countries. After attracting an impressive number of participants last year, Mihas CEO Mohd. Shukri Abdullah is confident of a 10% increase in the number of visitors in 2008, its fifth consecutive year. He also stated that MIHAS has opened the doors to exhibitors and traders interested in acquisition of food processing machinery, including all devices, utensils, storage, displays, serving equipments and packaging materials certified suitable for the manufacture of Halal food.
Mdm. Wan Norma Daud, Director of MATRADE stated that MIHAS is a gateway to a bigger market, a platform where Halal producers can launch their products and services not only in ASEAN, but also in new developing economies and the international market.
"Mihas stands as the best entry point and gateway through which forward looking businesses can develop strategic partnerships, introduce their products and penetrate the global Muslim market. The presence of prominent buyers especially from Malaysia and its ASEAN neighbours allows global Halal entrepreneurs to gauge receptiveness to their products and its feasibility to enter the huge ASEAN market.”
There are immense networking opportunities for Thai businesses and MIHAS can be a great platform because of its ties with the Middle East, Europe, US and recently South America. MIHAS can help businesses find buyers through the exhibition from as many as 25 nations and thus expand their global reach.
The Seminar also featured an array of products that MIHAS offers a scope for. These comprised of Products: Halal consumables, non-food products; Services: Halal certified Premises, Islamic investment, Banking and Takaful (insurance) and Government agencies and associations.
