Passenger car sales up 14.5% in September
Passenger car sales jumped 14.5 percent in September to 3,892 units in the Philippines from 3,400 units in August, local reports said on Friday.
Sales of the segment in the first nine months of the year rose 5.7 percent year-on-year to 29,562 units, accounting for 35 percent of total industry sales in the period, said Philippine ABS-CBN TV, citing a report by the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers Association of the Philippines (CAMPI).
In September alone, total motor vehicle sales was recorded at 10,485 units, up 11.8 percent from 9,375 in the same month last year.
CAMPI president Elizabeth Lee attributed this growth to the continuous arrival of vehicle stocks to meet growing demand.
Meanwhile, total automotive sales in January to September rose 16.6 percent to 80,050 units from 72,085 units in the same period last year.
The commercial vehicle segment, which includes Asian utility vehicles (AUVs, a crossover between a mini van and a sport utility vehicle), light commercial vehicles, light trucks, and trucks and buses, grew 23.5 percent year-on-year to 54,488 units sold, accounting for 65 percent of total sales.
