 Nansha Port: China forging ahead

Forging Ahead ! Developments in the Pearl River Delta and Yangtze Delta  continue at breakneck speeds. While the Nansha Development Zone, on the west bank of  Pearl River,is in an extremely advantageous position of being the only gateway to the ocean for the Guanzhou- Foshan economic regions & major cities, the  Jiashan Economic Development Zone is also strategically located, bordering  Shanghai, the financial centre of China, and  Hangzhou, in the South West.  Both these two development zones continue with their expansion  and publicity  plans  unabated. Port facilities located in the  Jiaxing Economic Development  Zone: a trans-shipment port for containers.  Also the Yangshan International  deep water port is set to be transformed to become the biggest port in Asia, with an expected throughput of 15 million containers.

Nansha International Distribution Park: Container port facilities, logistics, distribution networks, even facilitating a ship building base, the pipe-line is full of activities ! Not surprisingly,  Nansha  plans to leap frog to the No.1 spot in all of Guangzhou . 4 phases of development have been planned for. In phase #1, 4 berths were launched in Sept’04. 2 more berths, capacity of 100,000 tons each,  were added in phase # 2.  By end September, another 4 more container terminals will become operational. Throughput by end September’07,  is expected to exceed 4.5 million TEU.  A special bonded logistics area  approved by   China Customs –Guangzhou Nansha Bonded Logistics Centre, would occupy a real estate Of 900,000sq.meters; of this 500,000sq.meters would be for warehousing and 73,800sq.meters for a container yard. In its drive to widen the range of international services that it provides, a number of promotional visits have been carried out. Infact, a number of impressive names are on its customer list : CSCL, COSCO,  MAERSK, HAPAG LLOYD, EVERGREEN.
