DPRK, Lao PMs discuss ties, regional, international issues
Lao Prime Minister Bouasone Bouphavanh and visiting Premier of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) Kim Yong Il discussed here Monday ways of beefing up bilateral relations, and other issues of common interest.
The DPRK premier's visit to Laos from Nov. 4-7 will help foster the relations, which have developed normally in recent years, the Lao prime minister said, noting that he highly appreciates the development of the ties between the two countries.
The Lao prime minister said that in the complex and changing world situation, Laos and the DPRK should maintain mutual visits, and step up exchanges and cooperation, while strengthening coordination in regional and international arenas, contributing to peace, cooperation and development in the region and the world at large.
After the talks, the two prime ministers witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding on cultural exchange between the two governments in the 2008-2010 period.
On Monday, the DPRK premier met with Lao President Choummaly Sayasone, who is also Secretary General of Lao People's Revolutionary Party. The two sides touched upon bilateral ties and regional and international issues, and briefed each other about their countries' socioeconomic development.
Kim Yong Il arrived in Laos' Vientiane capital on Sunday for his tour of four Southeast Asian nations, which has already taken him to Vietnam, Malaysia and Cambodia.
