Garuda set to fly 22 thousand passengers from Beijing

Indonesian national flag carrier Garuda Indonesia has set a target to fly 22,000 passengers for the Beijing-Jakarta route in 2008, Garuda General Manager for Beijing Pikri Ilham K said here on Saturday.

"We hope Garuda this year would fly 22,000 passengers, more than the 21,650 it flew last year," Pikri Ilham K said.

He said that amid tight competition Garuda would continue to carry out promotion and improve the quality of its service in order to achieve the target.

Pikri said that Garuda`s seat load factor last year reached 81.8 percent. Garuda operated B-737 New Generation (NG) airplanes with a total seat capacity of 26,499.

"Amid tight competition with foreign airlines which also served the Beijing-Jakarta route, the number of Garuda`s passengers from Beijing continued to increase in 2007," Pikri said.

Pikri said that the interest of Indonesian and Chinese citizens to use Garuda flights to Jakarta was high so that sometimes Garuda was overwhelmed in giving its service, particularly during holidays.

He said that Garuda conducted 169 flights from Beijing to Jakarta during 2007, or three flights a week.

Besides serving the Beijing-Jakarta route, Garuda also plied the Shanghai-Jakarta and Guanzhou-Jakarta routes with four flights a week respectively.

Garuda served the Shanghai-Jakarta routes with 204 flights, 58,447 seats and 38,823 passengers in 2007. It also served the Guanghou-Jakarta route with 212 flights, 36,701 seats and 28,823 passengers.

In connection with the Visit Indonesia Year 2008, Garuda Indonesia has prepared a number of programs in China to attract as many tourists as possible to Indonesia.

"Supported by the headquarters in Indonesia, Garuda Indonesia has prepared a number of programs in Beijing, Shanghai, guangzhou and Hong Kong to help promote Visit Indonesia Year 2008," he said.

He said that the programs were prepared with the concept of "Indonesian Hospitality" in all Garuda branch offices, including in China.
