Brunei eyes new business opportunities with China
Brunei plans to seek new business opportunities in information and communications technology (ICT) with China during a China-Asean exposition in October, said the Borneo Bulletin on Saturday.
Themed “China-Asean ICT Cooperation”, the 5th China-Asean Expo (CAEXPO) will be held in Nanning, Guangxi province of China, from October 22-25, during which the 3rd China-Asean ICT Week, will be held concurrently to further promote trade and technical exchanges and cooperation between Asean’s ICT enterprises and their Chinese counterparts.
The 5th CAEXPO will continue with the exhibition of electronics and electrical appliances to showcase made-in-China products that cater to Asean markets.
According to an official of the CAEXPO Secretariat, the ICT cooperation, as one of the 10 priority fields confirmed by China and Asean, enjoys prominent market potentials and ample room for bilateral cooperation.
Brunei strongly complements China in the ICT sector. As a major oil exporter among the Asean countries, Brunei enjoys a higher GDP per capita, which propels the demand for ICT products.
To address the international competition, there is a need to introduce advanced information technologies, thus constructing information network and platform.
Over the past years, China’s ICT sector has maintained rapid development, with large production scale and more advanced technologies.
In 2007, its sales volume recorded 5.6 trillion yuan, making the country one of the top ICT producers in the world, the Borneo Bulletin said.
