No tainted Chinese products in Brunei

"There are no defective (Chinese) products/items in Brunei and the Chinese government takes the issue of imported Chinese goods seriously."

This was the response from the Embassy of the People's Republic of China to the Bulletin's news item yesterday regarding concern over tainted products.

Mr Gu Yuchang, First Secretary, Economic and Commercial, Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Brunei, said they have checked with the Food & Safety Control Division, Department of Health Services of Brunei and have found that there are no such tainted items or complaints on Chinese-made products in the market.

He added that the government of the People's Republic of China will do all its best to safeguard the interest of the public, and will punish manufacturers accordingly for any defect or tainted products that have been distributed. They will face trial according to the law, he said.

In a statement to the Bulletin yesterday on the quality of Made in China products, Mr Huang Xilian, Counsellor of the Embassy of China in Brunei said, "The Chinese government undoubtedly aspires to make all products from China that are sent abroad free from defects, as it spares no effort in eliminating defective products both at home and abroad.

"The Chinese government as always attaches great importance and sincerity to the qualification of products made in China. I am glad to see that here in Brunei, the Made in China products account for a major share of the market. I would say that the Chinese goods here are of good quality, if not top quality," he added.

According to the Ministry of Commerce of China, bilateral trade volume in 2006 between China and Brunei stood at US$315 million, a 21 per cent increase than that of the previous year. Full story on Brunei online
