Two major events set for 2007
Two major tourism events in the country are set this year - the Philippine
Travel Exchange in Cebu and the Philippine Travel Mart 2007 in Manila, the online news site quoted the Department of Tourism as saying.

PHITEX, organised by the Philippine Convention and Visitors Corporation, is scheduled for September 6 at the Cebu International Convention Centre in Mandaue City. The Philippine Travel Mart, headed by the Philippine Tour Operators Association, will be held on September 7 to 9 at the SM Megatrade Halls in Mandaluyong City, a DOT press release said.

For the PHITEX, about 120 foreign buyers have been invited by the PCVC and the DOT to hold one-on-one discussions with Philippine tourism vendors.

Buyers will also be given the chance to hold pre and post-event tours to
popular Philippine destinations next month.

The 2007 Philippine Mart will devote the morning of September 7 to foreign buyers attending the PHITEX.

More than 2000 travel and tourism products and services will be featured by 336 exhibitors during the event themed, "Everything's Here For You." One exhibit hall will be devoted to health and wellness providers. Discounted domestic tour packages will also be sold, the press release said.

New tourist destinations such as Batanes and Mindanao will also be featured. Tourism Secretary Joseph Durano said he is hopeful the events will attract international buyers who will purchase in bulk Philippine tourism products.

The events will allow local tourism suppliers to showcase their wares to
international buyers without leaving the country.

"This time, Phitex will promote new destinations and highlight for the first time, (Cebu) the Queen City of the South," Durano said.
