Employment growth up in Q2
Singapore''s employment growth continued to be strong in the second quarter of this year, as the economy grew strongly by 8.2%, according to the Ministry of Manpower on July 31.

Figures from the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) show that 61,900 jobs were added in the second quarter, the highest quarterly rise on record, much higher than the 49,400 posted in the previous quarter and 36,400 in the same quarter a year ago.

The MOM said that preliminary figures on the labor market showed that employment grew in all the major sectors.

Services saw the highest gains, adding 33,600 workers. Manufacturing posted gains of 16,600.

Construction increased its workforce by 11,400, more than double the gains in the previous quarter, driven by the strong rebound in building activities, said the MOM.  Xinhua
