Govt to announce power bid winners in November
Thailand will announce the winners of its first power tender in a decade in November, five months after selling applications to 60 private electricity producers, the Energy Ministry said on July 31, Reuters reported.

The deadline for applications for the supply of 3,200 megawatts of electricity between 2010 and 2014 was October 19, the ministry said in a statement. The winners would then be announced in November and would sign contracts in June 2008, it said.

Major private power firms expected to bid include Ratchaburi Electricity Generating, Thailand's largest power firm, number two Electricity Generating and Thai Oil.

The tender is part of a 15-year power development plan ending 2021 which calls for new capacity of 39,676 megawatts from natural gas, coal, nuclear power and dams in neighbouring countries. Reuters
