Lao coffee popular in overseas markets
In the first half of this year, the Dao Heuang Import-Export company, has exported over 8,000 tonnes of coffee worth US$10.8 million.

In 2006, the company’s coffee export amounted to 1,130 tonnes, valued at 13.78 billion kip, said early this week Administrative Manager of the company Mr Kham Phommasone.

Mr Kham claimed that the sharp increase in the company’s export is due to the good taste its coffee. “The Dao branded coffee has been successful in its display in many foreign markets.”

Since 2006, Lao coffee has won popularity among foreign consumers, continued Mr Kham.

Dao Heuang is improving its finished coffee products for overseas markets, by focusing on the development of more colourful designs of the package, Mr Kham Phommasone has said.

Dao Heuang has exported its coffee products to 14 countries including Germany, Spain, Portugal, Belgium, Poland, Italy, France, Holland, Japan, the Republic of Korea, China, Indonesia, Vietnam, and Cambodia.

The company is expanding its plantation by 250 ha in Paksong district of the southernmost province of Champassak. KPL
