Study to ensure global market for SDSI products
He said the study will be important as there was no uniformity presently in the production of SDSI products and their quality did not meet the expected standards.
"Truth is, the potential of the SDSI is very bright, more so if they are mass produced, and in a structured and organized manner," he said in his speech at the official launch of the Showcase SDSI and International Seminar on SDSI at the Melaka International Trade Center in Melaka on July 5.
The event was officiated by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak. Also present at the event was Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam.
The event showcased SDSI products and services from 13 states as well as products from Japan, China and Taiwan.
Further on the local SDSI products, Mohamed Khaled said some districts produced the same type of products such as food products, beverages, handicraft, textiles and ceramics.
However, as these products are produced in each of the district separately, the production is limited, has no uniformity and also does not meet the quality expected.
"The future of SDSI depends on branding, labelling and marketing so that they can be effective," he said.
He also hoped that more government linked companies (GLCs) and private companies will come forward to "adopt" the SDSI projects as part of their corporate social obligation.
Through the business matching done by the ministry so far, he said 14 GLCs, five hypermarkets and two marketing agencies have established links with the SDSI projects. PNA/Bernama
