132 billion kip spent on poverty reduction
Laos’ Poverty Reduction Fund said last week that it had spent 132 billion kip for the implementation of 1,760 projects across the country since 2003.

Director General of Poverty Reduction Fund Dr Syvisay Saysanavongphet said that the education improvement shares the largest portion of the expenditure during the past five years.

“There have been 490 projects in this area implemented so far, with the investment of 37 billion kip, equivalent to 28% of the total expenditure.”

In order to achieve its poverty reduction of people in target districts five provinces, the fund has also spent a large amount of its money on the improvement of communication infrastructure and electricity and agriculture production of people.

Over 50 billion kip have been spent for the implementation of over 460 projects in such areas. Dr Syvisay was quoted as saying.

The fund has spent over 28 billion kip for the implementation of public health improvement projects, while only 9 billion on 319 income generation projects.
Poverty Reduction Fund’s projects are being implemented in Huaphan, Xiengkhuang, Savannakhet, Sarravane and Champassak. KPL
