Laos to approve 3,000 projects
The Lao government will approve close to 3,000 investment projects at a combined capital of 3.2 trillion kip (US$300 million) for the 2007-08 fiscal year.

Of the total, 655 billion kip will come directly from the State budget with the remaining being sourced from foreign investment, according to a report by the Lao Committee of Planning and Investment.

The report said that the Ministry of Transport, Communication, Posts and Construction would receive more than 38% of the total capital to carry out key projects, including the building of a route linking Kunming (China) and Bangkok (Thailand) with more than 200 km running across Northern Laos.

The educational sector will receive 16.6% in order to implement educational reform projects and the agro-forestry sector will get 9.2% to boost agricultural production and environmental protection.

The Information and Culture Ministry will be allocated 6.4%, followed by the Energy and Mining Ministry with 3.5% and the Ministry of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs with 2.4%. VNA
