Toshiba to launch Yangon branch
Toshiba Corporation on Friday announced that its Singapore-based subsidiary, Toshiba Asia Pacific Pte Ltd has established a branch office at the corner of Sule Pagoda Road and Merchant Street in central Yangon. It said the office will start operations next month.
“The Myanmar economy is expected to grow as it promotes economic deregulation and attracts inward direct investment,” the Japanese engineering and electronics giant said on its website. “Ensuring sustained growth will require broad investments in social infrastructure, including power generation and distribution, and the Yangon Branch Office will investigate the market and promote business in this and other areas, such as consumer products.”
Toshiba said it has promoted its home appliance business in Myanmar through distributors in Singapore since the 1980s, and has also supplied hydroelectric equipment for the Sedawgyi hydroelectric power plant in 1985.
Toshiba said its Yangon branch will “establish a stronger presence in the country and support Myanmar's economic development.”
